Maurice River Press concentrates on music which is both well-made and touches the listener. All pieces have emotion and intellect in an appealing balance.

We have spent decades finding, editing, and composing this varied collection. Most works are for professionals or advanced students. But some are excellent for students.

We feature the music of …

… Robert Russell Bennett, best known as the orchestrator and arranger of many of the greatest Broadway hits from the 1930s through the 1960s. But while he did this work, he composed very different chamber music. It is this music we present with the permission of Bennett’s estate. A private student of Nadia Boulanger, his music often has a French touch blended with an overtly American wit.

… Philip R. Dietterich, a well-known arranger of Shaker music and African-American spirituals, he is also a composer whose music is heard in choral concerts and churches throughout America.

… Paul Mack Somers, trained as a composer with Warren Benson and studied Score Analysis with Robert Prins, both at the Ithaca College School of Music. While so many embraced post-Webernism, he composed tonal music, often using quartal and polytonal effects. Yet he has always insisted that touching the listener is his goal.
